SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Storm (7-6) lost to the Green Bay Blizzard (6-8) for the in franchise history on Friday, June 17 with a 40-42 score.
The Storm started the game with a statement by getting a team rouge point after keeping the Blizzard from taking the opening kickoff out of the end zone. Green Bay answered with a five-yard touchdown pass by Jack Sheehan to Keshaun Taylor to take a 7-1 lead. Storm running back Nate Chavious bust out a 32-yard rushing touchdown to give the Storm a 8-7 lead. Green Bay had a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter after a two-yard rushing touchdown by Ladarius Skeleton.
The Storm reclaimed a 15-14 lead to start the second quarter with a three-yard quarterback keeper by Dalton Sneed. Green Bay answered with a 53-yard kickoff return by Ladarius Skeleton, giving them a 15-20 lead after a missed PAT. The Storm retook a 22-20 lead after a 14-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Dalton Sneed. Green Bay closed out the half with back-to-back scores and a 22-30 lead. The first score was a Tim Whitfield kickoff return and then a 23-yard field goal by Nick Jaworski.
Green Bay would get the only score in the third quarter with a Nick Jaworski 44-yard field goal, extending their lead to 22-33.
The Storm cut that lead to 30-33 early in the fourth quarter with a six-yard rushing touchdown by Carlos Thompson and a successful two-point conversion by Bryson Denley. Green Bay answered with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Ladarius Skeleton, extending their lead to 30-39. The storm reclaimed a 40-39 lead with three seconds remaining in the game after back-to back scoring drives. The first score was a was a four-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Dalton Sneed and then a 20-yard field goal by Sawyer Petre. Green Bay recovered the kickoff at the 19-yard line to kick a 35-yard field goal by Nick Jaworski to end the game.
Quarterback Dalton Sneed threw 15 completions for 159 yards, he also had 26 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Running back Nate Chavious house 38 rushing yards and one touchdown, along with 19 reception yards. Wide receiver Carlos Thompson had 65 reception yards and 12 rushing yards for one touchdown. Kicker Sawyer Petre made one field goal and all four PATs. Defensive back Famus Hasty led the Thunder Defense with seven tackles, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups. Linebacker Marquis Hendrix and defensive lineman Keontae Chive each had a tackles for loss.
The Storm are now tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference Standings. The Storm return home next week (Saturday, June 25) to face the Massachusetts Pirates. Kickoff is set for 7:05 PM.
