As 2016 comes to a close, the Indoor Football League will look back at the Top Ten Players from the 2016 season. The countdown will culminate with the announcement of the Top IFL Player of 2016 being announced on New Year's Eve.
The IFL is pleased to announce that Sioux Falls Storm LB Tyler Knight has been named Number 5 on the IFL's Top Ten Players of 2016.
Breaking into the top half of the IFL's countdown is two-time IFL Defensive Player of the Year and perennial All-IFL LB Tyler Knight. One of the IFL's top defensive stars, Knight's tremendous 2016 campaign helped lead the Sioux Falls Storm to their sixth consecutive United Bowl trophy.
Knight had a record setting season in 2016 as he was all over the field, setting an IFL single season record with 169 total tackles. Knight recorded nine games in which he topped double-digit tackles. In addition, Knight excelled at special teams too as he tied for the league lead with eight blocked kicks.
Knight's playmaking ability was fully evident in the Storm's United Conference Championship game against the Cedar Rapids Titans. Knight's early 36-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown changed the dynamic of the game so much that Cedar Rapids was unable to truly recover.
The IFL's all-time tackles leader finished his 2016 campaign with 169 tackles, 4.5 sacks,
9.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, three pass breakups and eight blocked kicks. Following the season, Knight was named to his fourth consecutive All-IFL list.
Knight has re-signed with the Storm for the 2017 season.
The IFL's countdown of the Top Ten Players continues tomorrow with the announcement of number 4.
