STORM SHOCK THE BARNSTORMERS

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm played the Iowa Barnstormers on Friday, June 8th in a week 16 showdown. This game was one of the most intense games of the season as the Storm would win 51-49 as the clock struck zero.

The Sioux Falls Storm played the Iowa Barnstormers on Friday, June 8th in a week 16 showdown. This game was one of the most intense games of the season as the Storm would win 51-49 as the clock struck zero.

by Drew Powell to Ryan Balentine. The Sioux Falls Storm would score back to back touchdowns to take a 14-6 lead. The scores came off a 37-yard and 29-yard touchdown passes from Lorenzo Brown to Damian Ford. The Barnstormers would trail at the end of the quarter 14-13 after a 10-yard touchdown reception by Brady Roland from Drew Powell.


Iowa would be the first to score in the second quarter after a Donavan Williams five-yard rushing touchdown, giving them their first lead of the night at 20-14. Sioux Falls would answer with back to back touchdowns to re-take a 28-20 lead. The first score was a two-yard rushing touchdown by Lorenzo Brown and then the Lorenzo Brown would hit Judd Harrold for a wide open 26-yard touchdown. Iowa would score on three consecutive drives to end the half with a 35-28 lead. First the Barnstormers would score on a four-yard touchdown pass by Drew Powell to Brady Roland, next on the ensuing kickoff the Barnstormers would earn team safety and lastly Donavan Williams would get a three-yard rushing touchdown.


The Storm would begin the third quarter with a 25-yard field goal by Miles Bergner, cutting the Barnstormers lead to 35-31. The Barnstormers would extend their lead to 49-31 after scoring on back to back drives. The first score was a 21-yard touchdown pass by Drew Powell to Skyler Scott and then a 29-yard touchdown pass by Drew Powell to Brady Roland. The Storm would end the third quarter with a team safety, trailing 49-33.


The Sioux Falls Storm would be the only team to score in the fourth quarter to earn their tenth win of the season with a 51-49 victory. The first score was a one-yard rushing touchdown by Lorenzo Brown along with a successful two-point conversion where Lorenzo Brown found Damond Powell, next Lorenzo Brown would get a two-yard rushing touchdown with a successful two-point conversion after Lorenzo Brown hit Damian Ford and then the Thunder Defense would block the game winning field and earn a safety off it.


Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed 16 out of his 28 passing attempts while throwing for 259 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Brown also had 32 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Wide Receivers Damien Ford had 165 yards with two touchdowns and Judd Harrold had 63 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Miles Bergner was perfect on the night, hitting one field goal and four extra points. Linebacker Dezmin Reed led the defense with 11 total tackles. Defensive back Trey Wafford had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.


The Sioux Falls Storm (10-3) will face the Green Bay Blizzard(2-10) in the last regular season game of 2018 on Saturday, June 16 for a 7:05pm kickoff.
