Box Score SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Storm Indoor Football team hit the road for a second consecutive week, facing another challenging Eastern Conference opponent in the Massachusetts Pirates. Both teams exchanged blows with big offensive plays, but the Pirates walked away from this shootout with a 49-41 home win over the Storm.
Sioux Falls Quarterback
Billy Hall led the offensive attack, throwing three touchdown passes and running in three more scores on the ground. He finished the night 11-for-17 in the pass attack for 179 yards and added 10 carries for 36 yards.
Second year running back
Xavier Jackson finished the night with 58 total yards of offense and two receiving touchdowns. Wide Receiver
Kentrez Bell also played well in the loss. Bell finished the night as the team's leading receiver, hauling in three catches for 70 yards and a score.
Carlos Thompson Jr's lone reception of the night was a big one, hauling in a 39-yard strike from Hall in the first quarter. Thompson also stepped in defensively for the injury plagued Sioux Falls defense, finishing the night with three tackles (two solo).
Massachusetts Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield outduelled Hall on Friday night, throwing for 173 yards and five touchdowns. Bennifield was incredibly accurate, going 15-for-16 in pass attempts, including three passes of 30 yards or more.
Pirates Running Back Jimmie Robinson had three touchdowns on the night, including an eight yard receiving score.
Four different Massachusetts receivers scored a touchdown on Friday night. Isaac Zico was the leading receiver, finishing with four catches for 60 yards and a score. Thomas Owens had three catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
Linebacker
Amin Black looked good in his second start for the Storm. Black finished the game with eight total tackles, including four tackles for loss. Black and Storm Defensive Lineman
Isaiah Blackmon each recorded a sack on Friday night.
Former USD standout
Elijah Reed was the Storm's leading tackler, finishing the night with nine total tackles (eight solo).
The Pirates improved to 3-0 in the Indoor Football League Season and have taken possession of 1st place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Storm have stumbled out of the gates after back-to-back road losses, including a six-point overtime loss against the Quad City Steamwheelers last week.
The Storm have started the season with an 0-2 record for just the second time in franchise history, and the first time since the 2004 season. Sioux Falls suffered back-to-back losses to the Omaha Beef and Utah Warriors, falling to 0-2 on the season before winning 13 of thier next 14 games. That Storm team won the Conference championship game (44-13) over Billings but lost Indoor Bowl IV to the Lexington Horsemen (59-38).
Sioux Falls now enter an early season bye week before returning to Indoor Football League action Week 5 against the Tulsa Oilers. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 2:45 for the pre-game show prior to the 3:05 PM CT kickoff inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. There will also be in-game entertainment from the ZOOperstars! halftime act. This family friendly performance will be a hit with kids and adults and have everyone laughing and dancing in their seats.
