Box Score TUCSON, AZ – The Sioux Falls Storm Indoor Football Team lost their second consecutive game on Saturday night, falling to the Tucson Sugar Skulls by the final score of 56-42.
The Storm led 14-7 midway through the 2
nd quarter before the Tucson offense woke up. Sugar Skulls return man Emetrious Scott ran back a 49-yard touchdown to tie the game.
Tucson quarterback Ramone Atkins gave the Sugar Skulls their second lead of the night on a 38-yard touchdown pass to Carrington Thompson with 1:10 remaining in the 2
nd quarter. The duo would strike again just before halftime, this time on a 9-yard strike to push the Tucson lead to double digits before halftime.
The Storm got the ball to start the second half and got themselves back into the game early in the 3
rd quarter on a 33-yard touchdown run from
Draysean Hudson to make it 28-21.
The Sugar Skulls pulled away for good after back-to-back rushing touchdowns to give Tucson the 42-21 lead.
Both teams would exchange touchdowns in the 4
th quarter, but ultimately it was too much Ramone Atkins and the Sugar Skull offense on Saturday night.
Atkins finished the night going 12-of-17 for 126 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also added 16 carries for 64 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Storm quarterback
Lorenzo Brown Jr. had an off night, going 7-for-14 with 89 passing yards and two touchdowns. Brown also ran the ball nine times for 22 yards and a rushing score.
Running Back
Xavier Jackson ran the ball 12 times for 29 yards and a touchdown. Jackson now has five touchdowns in since joining the Storm four games ago.
Wide receiver
Draysean Hudson had another solid night for the Storm. Hudson finished the game with three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. He also led the Storm with 38 rushing yards and a rushing score.
Donnie Corley Jr. led the Storm with 55 receiving yards and touchdown. Corley has now scored a TD in six straight games.
Storm defensive backs
Byron Edwards and Laronji Vason-McCoy each had nine tackles in the loss.
The Storm have a quick turnaround with their third-straight road game coming up in six days when they visit the Iowa Barnstormers on Friday May 26
th at 7:05 PM.
The Storm have a bye week on June 3
rd before returning to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Saturday June 10
th to face the undefeated Frisco Fighters presented by
Frontier Climbing & Fitness and the
South Dakota Army National Guard.
