STORM TRAVEL TO TUCSON FOR FIRST TIME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

TUCSON, AZ - The Sioux Falls Storm Indoor Football team continues their month-long road trip on Saturday, May 20th when they travel to Tucson, AZ for the first time in franchise history when they face the Sugar Skulls at the Tucson Arena at 8:05 PM CT.

SCOUTING THE TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS
The Tucson Sugar Skulls enter the weekend with a 3-3 record in the 2023 Indoor Football League season.  

The Tucson offense ranks 11th in the IFL in points scored per game (39.5ppg). The Sugar Skulls 34 total touchdowns scored are 2nd fewest in the league this season. The only team with fewer offense touchdowns are the Tulsa Oilers (33).

Sugar Skulls running back Mike Jones leads the team in rushing touchdowns (12) ranking 6th in the IFL overall. 

Tucson wide receiver Carrington Thompson in the top offensive weapon, ranking 2nd in the IFL in receiving touchdowns (11) and 6th in receiving yards (404).

The Sugar Skulls defense has allowed the fewest opponent touchdowns in the league this season (30) and ranks 3rd in the IFL in points allowed per game with opponents scoring an average of 38.3 points per contest.

Mike Minter leads the Tucson defense with 25 total tackles (23 solo) while adding an interception and a forced fumble to his season stat line.

SCOUTING THE SIOUX FALLS STORM
The Sioux Falls Storm enter the weekend with a 4-3 record in the 2023 Indoor Football League season.

The Sioux Falls defense is tired for 4th in the IFL in fewest points allowed per game (40.3). The Storm's 10 team interceptions  is tied for 3rd  in the IFL. Only Duke City (11) and Frisco (13) have more INT this season.

Storm defensive back Eugene Ford leads the Storm with 5 interceptions, tied for 2nd in the IFL overall. 

Linebacker James Brown leads all Strom defenders with 40.5 total tackles this season (31 solo).

The Storm Offense are averaging 46.4 points per game in 2023, good enough for 5th in the IFL. 

Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown Jr. leads the team with 14 rushing touchdowns, tied for 3rd most in the IFL.

Storm wide receiver Cole Thurness ranks 4th in the IFL in yards per catch, averaging 16.4 yards per grab.

Storm running back Bryson Denley is 2nd in the IFL in average yards per kick return this season (26.5 yards per return)

SERIES HISTORY vs TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS

Saturday night's game will be the second ever meeting between these two Indoor Football League opponents. The first and only meeting happened on June 23rd, 2019 inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, SD.  The Storm won that game by the final score of 50-47.

Storm Quarterback Lorenzo Brown Jr. Had a big game for the Storm in the win. Brown finished the day 10-of-15 for 107 yards and a passing touchdown.  He also ran the ball 12 times for 54 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

The Game was back and forth for most of the first half, but Sioux Falls took the lead for good midway through the third quarter and never looked back.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Storm continue their month-long road trip on Friday, May 26th when they visit the Iowa Barnstormers at 7:05 PM.  The Storm will have a bye week June 3rd before returning home to face the Frisco Fighters on Saturday, June 10th at 7:05 PM for Military Appreciation Night, presented by Frontier Climbing & Fitness and The South Dakota Army National Guard.

ONE LAST THING
Sioux Falls Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown Jr. reached a major milestone last week against the Quad City Steamwheelers. The Veteran signal caller finished the night 9-for-21 in the pass attack for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. His final pass attempt of the night gave Brown 1,600 total pass attempts for his career.  He enters tonight's action against the Sugar Skulls with 992 career completions, needing just eight more to reach 1,000 for his career. Brown trails only Terrance Bryant for the all-time record in both categories in franchise history.
