SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Green Bay Blizzard scored 21-unanswered points in the 4
th quarter to cap off the 47-41 comeback win over the Sioux Falls Storm on Sunday night inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The game was back and forth for most of the first half before Sioux Falls quarterback
Lorenzo Brown Jr. connected with wide receiver
Cole Thurness on an 8-yard touchdown pass to give the Storm their first lead at 21-14.
Brown found wide receiver
Donnie Corley Jr. on a 5-yard touchdown strike with eight seconds left in the first half to extend the lead to 28-14. Green Bay responded just before the intermission when quarterback Ja'rome Johnson aired out a 44-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Marquise Irvin to make it 28-20 at the halftime break.
Sioux Falls pushed the lead back to 14 points late in the 3
rd quarter after Corley Jr. hauled in his second touchdown catch of the night on a 27-yard grab to make it 34-20.
Thurness snagged his second touchdown moments later on a 36-yard strike to push the Storm lead to 41-26.
The Blizzard started the comeback with 7:20 remaining in regulation when Johnson found Irvin for his third touchdown grab of the night to cut the Sioux Falls lead to 41-33.
Green Back running back Terrance Smith tied the game at 41-41 with 4:51 left in regulation after scoring on an 11-yard touchdown run.
The Blizzard took the lead for good with 10 seconds remaining in the 4
th quarter when Johnson found wide receiver Steve Newbold on a 19 yard touchdown to make it 47-41.
Lorenzo Brown Jr. put together his best passing night of the season in the loss. Brown threw for 220 yards and four touchdowns and also added a pair of rushing touchdowns to his stat line.
The veteran signal caller now has seven rushing touchdowns overall this season.
Donnie Corley Jr. finished the night with eight catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Cole Thurness finished the night with three catches for 52 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Green Bay quarterback Ja'rome Johnson finished his night going 12-of-18 with 187 yards and five passing touchdowns.
Blizzard wide receiver Marquise Irvin led all receivers with three touchdowns and eight catches to go along with his game high 104 receiving yards.
Storm defensive back Laronji Vason-McCoy led all Storm defenders with six tackles (five solo) and defensive lineman
Chima Dunga recorded his first interception in a Sioux Falls uniform in the loss.
With the loss, the Sioux Falls Storm fall to 3-7 at home all-time against the Green Bay Blizzard. The Storm hold an 11-8 record over all against the Blizzard dating back to the 2014 Indoor Football League season. Sioux Falls holds an 8-1 record against the Blizzard in games played in Green Bay.
The Storm (1-2) and Blizzard (2-2) will face each other again this Friday night in Green Bay, WI at 7:05 PM. The game will be streamed live on Youtube.
