Section O: Greetings Storm Fans
Jul. 28, 2008
Greetings Storm fans, I apologize for the delay in the getting you a story following the United Bowl, but the last two weeks were one thing after another. United Bowl IV ended with the same outcome as the previous three, with the Storm victorious. The game itself played out with more defense than I can recall in any previous championship game. Bloomington scored early and often in the first quarter scoring 17 points, however it would take the next three quarters to match that offensive output. The Storm defense held the eXtreme to 9 points coming form 3 field goals over the second half. The Storm got the help it needed on special teams, with a blocked Field goal return for a touchdown, and the rest has been covered way more thoroughly than I could ever hope to, so I’ll let everyone’s memories, and professional reporters do that job.
Section O: We Want Four
Jul. 08, 2008
We Want Four!
Its that simple. The Storm enter their unprecedented fifth straight league championship game, and their fourth straight United Bowl. After falling short to the Lexington Horsemen in Indoor Bowl IV in the National Indoor Football League, the Storm have put up back to back to back Championship runs, and a fourth is one win away. Since the National Indoor National Championship game (or whatever the official title is) with the winner of the Intense Football League (IFL) no longer a certainty at the time of this writing due to the IFL restructuring their playoffs, this could be the last time we get to see this entire cast of characters play in Storm uniforms. Its time for us, as Storm fans to make sure we let them know how much weve enjoyed their effort over the past 4, 6, or 9 seasons.
Section O: What Time is It: Game Time
Jul. 01, 2008
It can be argued, that all truly great art comes from great pain. If that's the case then Adam Hicks' 25 yard field goal as time expired to seal a 46-44 victory over the Billings Outlaws was truly a work of art. The pain in this case was felt by the 4300 plus Storm fans that managed to find their way into the Sioux Falls Arena this past Saturday evening. Wiley veteran and offensive leader Terrance Bryant headed to the locker room with shoulder issues after sneaking his way to a drive extending first down between tackle "Big Daddy" Anthony Thomas and center YaTarre Brown. Rookie Chad Cavender finished that drive with a touchdown run, capped the following offensive possession with a beautiful 28 yard touchdown strike to former University of Sioux Falls teammate Dusty Hovorka, and did just enough to allow Adam Hicks to kick three field goals including the game winner.
Section O: Playoff Time
Jun. 23, 2008
Greetings Storm fans, its playoff time. You wouldnt know by surfing the UIF league website, but there were two huge playoff games played this last Saturday night. Out in Billings, the Outlaws jumped out to a 12-point lead early in the game and the Beef could come no closer than 2 points in a 47-30 loss. This brings the Outlaws, again, to Sioux Falls for a conference championship.
Section O: Beating Bloomington
Jun. 16, 2008
Last Saturday the Storm managed to end up on top 49-41 in an interesting contest at the Sioux Falls Arena. The eXtreme had 8 starters that didnt play, and a few players that didnt even make the trip as they had wrapped up their conference championship weeks ago. The Storm offense struggled at times to move the ball against the Bloomington defense, however the return of Dusty Hovorka and Marques Smith to the Storm starting lineup accounted for 6 touchdowns. Hovorka seemed to be in sync and on the same page with quarterback Terrance Bryant most of the night and Smith hit the holes behind his offensive line with great intensity and finished with 89 yards on 21 carries. It was good to see both of them in uniform and hopefully they both can suit up and produce in the playoffs.

The stage was set. Mark Blackburn had stuffed Colorado running back Terry Washington for a 3 yard loss on 4th and goal with just under 90 seconds left in Fort Collins Friday night. Terrance Bryant took over and efficiently moved the ball to the Colorado 19 yard line. But it was not to be. The pass intended for Brian Alberty fell harmlessly to the ground, a pass to James Terry was off the mark, and the Storm limped out of Colorado having suffered their 3rd loss of the season, 29-24.

Welcome Storm fans big and small to another rendition of the Section O blog.
Section O: On The Road Again...
May. 19, 2008
Last week the good guys took on the Wichita Wild, and for 15 minutes it looked as though we might be in for a wild ride. However the Storm defense woke up about the time the Wild offense took a nap and the same 14 points that the Wild had in the first quarter were all the points they had at the end of the game. The Wild took full advantage of two Terrance Bryant interceptions to race to an early 14-7 lead midway through the 1st quarter. However in typical Storm fashion the offense woke up and the defense made their adjustments and the rout was on. There were tons of plays that were highlight reel worthy plays by the Storm in this game but the two that made my night were Trice Crumps snap at middle linebacker, and Shannon Poppingas blocked? field goal. Good thing Poppy wasnt playing basketball.
Section O: Welcome The Wild
May. 14, 2008
This week we welcome UIF newcomers, the Wichita Wild to our aged barn. The Wild have certainly had their struggles this season after a history of decent success in other indoor leagues. They however pulled off what might have been the shocker of the year so far, handing the Colorado Ice a 35-31 loss in Fort Collins.
Section O: A Little Perspective
May. 05, 2008
The Storm stretched their winning streak over the Sioux City Bandits to ten straight games, but that was overshadowed by the medical incident on the field late in the 4th quarter. Early reports out of Sioux City were that Jarrod DeGeorgia was awake, alert and responsive to questions. He was held in the hospital overnight for observation, and released having been treated for dehydration.

Section O: That Makes Nine
Apr. 16, 2008
Ahh sweet vengeance, well at least sort of. It was indeed a sweet smelling victory over the team we love to loathe on Saturday night. The Storm defense stopped 5 Sioux City drives, and the offense was able to grind out the second half with short passes and a methodical ground game.
Section O: Two in a Row? Who'd Have Thunk It?
Apr. 10, 2008
The Storm dropped a heartbreaker to the Billings Outlaws on Saturday April 5th in Billings. A holding call in the end zone gave the Outlaws 2 pts, but way more importantly it took the ball away from the Storm, and Chris Dixon and company never returned it.
Section O: It Came and It Went
Apr. 10, 2008
It came and it went. The pass was a little off target as was the case most things that night, and just like that, as the public address announcer so succinctly put it, "The Steak Is Over". I watched with an entire row of crowded Storm fans is section 3 of the Omaha Civic Auditorium, and in that moment, we all had the same thought. Darn.
Section O: Finding Victory 28
May. 22, 2007
July 15,2005....Stamps were 37 cents, gas was under 2$ a gallon, and Section "O" was a loud, but smaller group. The Sioux Falls Storm lost to the Sioux City Bandits 54-48 at the Tyson Center. That was the last time the Storm has lost a football game...they went on to win playoff road games in Omaha and Lexington, before defeating the Bandits in United Bowl I 40-38. Then 2006 came and they won all 17 of their games--capped off with the United Bowl II Championship over Lexington 72-64....the "Perfect" season. As 2007 has progressed, the Storm opened the season with 5 of 6 games on the road and came out with victories...
Section O Prepares for the I-29 Matchup
May. 11, 2007
Greetings Storm fans from Section O, my name is Corey Geier and I am one of the fans assigned to keep you all updated from time to time on our point of view. We are off to a great start this year, and tonight we can tie the record of 27 wins in a row.
Section O "The 9th Man" Ready for a Repeat!
Jul. 29, 2006
Hello Storm fans, Corey checking in here for one of the last reports from Section O "The 9th Man" this season. I know we all would like to end it with a win! This has been one of the best seasons ever as a storm fan. When the team does not lose all year long, it is hard to look down on the season. Although, it has not been an easy task to get to the current record of 16 wins and 0 losses...
Section O Ready for 2006 UIF Playoffs
Jul. 21, 2006
Well it is that time again and this time we are 15-0. Yes, we made it through the season UNDEFEATED. Section O "The 9th Man" are more then excited to roll into this Sundays game with chants and cheers prepared to distract the Evansville BlueCats players. It was a long and hard battle this season; with edge of your seat, down to the last second nail biters, to 73-0 blowouts.
Life is great in Section O this year! 11-0
Jun. 16, 2006
Life is great in Section O this year! We have helped cheer the Storm to a 11-0 record and a loud and crazy atmosphere at the Storm Shelter. Any opposing team that does not know who Section O is before they visit Sioux Falls will soon get accustomed to us. We figure it is our job, along with the rest of the faithful Storm fans, to make sure we give the Storm a home-field advantage! The more the opposing team worries about us, the more we are helping the Storm.
Section O Wants a 7-0 Start!
May. 05, 2006
As the Storm return to Sioux Falls for their first home game after two weeks on the road, Section O is also preparing harder than ever. The last two weeks gave us time to let our voices regain their strength, because we are going to need it as the Fort Wayne Freedom come to the Storm Shelter. The Storm had a battle with them in the first meeting, and won with an amazing comeback followed by a win in overtime, but we hope to score early and often against them this match-up.
4 And 0 From Section "O"
Apr. 21, 2006
The storm was brewing outside the arena Saturday afternoon, but held off until the Storm inside the arena was ready to go at 7:05pm! This gave us plenty of time to do our usually pre-game tailgating. Our section "O" group meets every home game in the parking lot by the Arena's box office main doors. As our section "O" founders and leaders will tell you, the tailgate parties are a great part of the Storm experience!
Section O says "Bring on the Raptors!"
Apr. 15, 2006
This was the day. Saturday April 8th. The 2006 home opener and glorious sunny day it was! As the usual group of Section O'ers filed to the tailgating spot (across the street from Buffalo Wild Wings), we couldn't help but be excited for the new season that is upon us
Section O Prepares for Home Opener
Apr. 08, 2006
Section O has been waiting. Waiting since the regular season last year to have a home game! With all three of the playoff games last year and the first two games this year all away, we have been chomping at the bit to get back to the arena and in section O to cheer on the Storm. The 9th man is ready to be loud and cheer the Storm on to victory.

The 2004 season of the Sioux Falls Storm was a great, action packed, up and down season, and I am going to try and relive some of the highlights of being a Section O member. The sea of red Storm shirts can be spotted from all angles of the arena, and are well known in the Sioux Falls sports community. Our motto is "There is no I in team, but there is an O in Storm!!"
The season started out slow, with most of the games on the road. A few section O'ers made the bus trips to the away games. Along with other great Storm fans, we represented Sioux Falls and supported the team, and had a great time doing it. Road tripping has never been so fun! "Lets Go Storm" chants (one of many chants), as well as the occasional, Gilligan's Island theme song can be heard on the bus. Colin, T.C. and the crew always made sure there was plenty of beer and treats on the bus. Well, except for the time we stopped at the Vermillion exit and bought all the Miller Lite they had in stock! What a trip! Everybody got their fill, plus two. Just make sure you are not the first one to break the seal, because no one wants the distinction of the smallest bladder! "Fiirrst one, Fiirst one!!!"

The home games were a different story. Every home game started out around 4:00pm CST across the street from Buffalo Wild Wings in the south parking lot of the Canaries baseball stadium. Self-appointed Section O Ringleaders Corey Geier, Mitch Jurgens and Shane Gardner normally made plans the night before on what to we were going to serve for food and drink during the pre-game tailgate session. It mostly consisted of burgers, brats and pork loins on the grill. The beer flavors were always a different mix of Miller Lite, MGD Lite, Bud Light, Coors Light, just to name a few. On hot days, we sometimes have some kind of fu-fu drinks for the ladies.
Mitch and Shane always bring their games of bean bags along too, so we can get some games going to help pass some of the time away before "The Game" starts. We always love to be outside to enjoy the nice weather. If the weather ever got too cold, we would move the tailgate session inside to BWW's.

As some of you have seen, the Storm has a big red horn to blow during the games that kind of sounds like the Vikings horn. Well, we like to put that horn to a different use. Oddly enough we discovered the horn holds one can of beer very well, and turns out it make a great beer bong. So to start off the pre-game right, we like to digest a few that way! We normally tailgate until about 6:45pm then we all walk over to the Arena.
We encourage everyone to come tailgate with us and show your support, and have an ice cold one with some fellow fans. Remember, the more the merrier!
Around 7:00pm CST time there is a buzz in the air. And that "buzz" is the Section O crew walking into the Arena ready to rock and roll and cheer on the Storm! You can spot us right away- going straight to the wristband counter, preparing to purchase the oh so cheap beers at the beloved Arena. : After the Section O crew gets our bands, we make our way over to the beer stand, and start stocking up on the ice cold glasses of beer. We normally like to make our entrance before the National Anthem, but it depends on how long it takes in the beer line!

Once we get settled in, we grab the rosters and scout out whom on the opposing team has the funniest name so we can make fun of him. We always find the kickers name too, so we can heckle him on every kick. Occasionally a few of the Storm players will look up to Section O and make the big O symbol with their arms above there heads. That gets us even more pumped, and we get louder! We try to get the rest of the crowd into the game even more with our chants and cheering. Throughout the game we continue to harass opposing players waiting for one to give us some signs we are getting under their skin. From that point on, he will be hearing it from us the rest of the game. We feed off making the opposing players angry and forgetting about the game at hand. We consider ourselves the 9th man. By the end of the game, most of us have lost our voices. We use what we have left to let their coach know he needs to "Start the bus" or its time to "nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey GOODBYE". If they are higher in the standings, then we let them know they are "OVERRATED"!
Section O, it seems, is a place either people hate or love. We apologize up front if we might be too rowdy but we are just trying to help the team!! Remember, REAL FANS STAND!
After the game we will give our final waves to the players and fans and make our way back over to the remains of the pre-game tailgate party. We will gather our things, round up the sober drivers and get everybody down to Champps where the post game festivities take place.
We really love winning home games! Especially because Storm owner Kent V. shows up happy, and likes to celebrate with us Section O'ers!
